West New York is the second-most densely populated municipality in the United States of America, as the town has over 53,000 people living in an area of 1.33 square miles. The town of West New York is located in the northern part of Hudson County in New Jersey, above the New Jersey Palisades.

The formation of West New York as a town happened by an act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1898 when it replaced Union Township based on the results of a referendum.
